Link EMS Help

Okay I just bought a secondhand Link EMS, loom adaptor, boost control solenoid for my car.

It also came with a manual and an receipt which was dated July 2000. So I'm guessing this would be a Link V1? It looks identical to the V4, and there are no model numbers anywhere (haven't looked inside yet). So I'm not sure......

I'm wondering if it can be, and if it is worth upgrading to V4 spec? How much?

I mean I'm sure it'll do what I need as is, and should work with the boost control solenoid as it was sold with it. But I am interested in the little extras......

The V4 can be programmed via laptop but the V1 cant?

Does the V4 come with antilag or launch control? Or are these options (I know they are standard with the Link+). Can this be added to my V1? How much? Probably won't us either but just curious.

The link3 is looking good. Was having a geez at the spec list the other week. Impressed.

The link EMS or LEM 1 and LEM 2 can't be upgraded to 3,4 or 5 spec.
LEM 5 is due out in a week or so. However with a 2000 purchase I would bet it's a LEM3. The easiest way to discover the Link version is by color of the cover. The LEM3 or later have a green case with a white cover and a green link logo on the face. If you have a hand controller an arrow up should give you the version number.
LEM 3 is not PC tunable however WAR motorsport make a datalogging app thats very good. The LEM4 is PC tunable has multicoil support as standard. The LEM5 has better boost control, larger maps, 8 x 20, and with the later LEM4 hardware is able to have an additional input (IAT or oil pressure) However will still not do antilag (Illegal on roads), traction control, sequential or a multitude of the nice road car features in the Link Plus.
Last time I had one of my LEM3s upgraded to LEM4 it cost 180, however that was a good 18 months ago.

Yea I think you are right, it must be V3. So why did you upgrade to V4? Was being able to use PCLink, multicoil with it the only reasons? So the V3 can be upgraded to V5? But won't have the additional input (as you mentioned only works with later V4 hardware)?

cost me $180 ish to upgrade my link v3 to v4 spec and get it reprogramed to suit my car as it was programed for a 4age but i am using it on 3sgte. pc tuning is awesome function to have

The V3 is able to be configured for multicoil, but only by the factory at a charge rate. I'm a computer engineer by trade so being able to PC tune it was very important... especially as I went through a multitude of dyno tunes with very little sucess. For a cheap engine like an unmodified 4age it's better to get a baseline map from someone and play with the map yourself until you get a good spread of power with no holes and no issue with trailing throttle flooding. I wouldn't do so with my expensive modified engine, dyno tune with a reputable mechanic.

The V3 can be directly upgraded to the V5, you just won't have that extra input. It will give you additional rows and colums and better boost control but that's about all you'll use. And of course you'll have PC tuning!

I've pretty much decided to wait till the V5 comes out, then upgrade. I'm in no rush anyways, the engine is still being built
