AE82 Fxgt oil filter - How the fsck do you get it off?

How the hell do you get the oil filter off a 4age in an ae82? There's only _JUST_ enough room to get your fingers around the edge, but you cant get a good enough grip to loosen it because they are soo tight. Ive tried using one of those tools, but theres not enough room for me to lever my hand! HELP!

Yeah I think i might have to... feck those japanese know how to pack everything in tightly!

yeah the screwdriver trick always works real well or if not destroy the sides of the filter making it an easier shape to turn

If your facing the back of the car, reach in under the right hand side of the exhaust manifold when its cold (so you dont burn yourself) and youll get a good grip on it to undo it. Youll struggle to get a decent grip if you reaching in at the filter directly from the front.

But yeah if all else fails, use a screwdriver

try a pair of polygrips (or multigrips or whatever you want to call them), cos if you try with a screwdriver and it doesnt work then you cant drive it anywhere (like a mechanic or whatever)

A screwdriver ALWAYS works!!!

I made a handy filter puller by drilling a hole in a cheap socket then threading a smallish loop of chainsaw chain through it. Then as you turn the socket chain bites into filter and rips it off. It was easy to make and beats those tools hands down but the screw driver is also a quick and easy method
