blown head gasket

Postby deaf_rattle » Mon Jul 12, 2004 6:12 pm

Seems my head gasket wasnt replaced properly and now needs replacing.
Whats involved and is anyone able to give me a hand changing it.

Maybe a good ole fashioned bbq, drinks and change the head gasket day?

anything else i need to buy to do the swap other than the gasket.

cheers

hmmm, quite simple really, just rather time consuming thats why Id suggest you do it yourself rather than pay a mechanic to do the same task. Of corse there is the gasket itself, probably pay around 100 bucks for a 7mgte one and you may require a special tool to undo the head bolts like some engines

just make sure you get all the old gasket off without gouging head or block

is it actually blown? how long has it been that way? will probably pay to get the head checked before it goes back on

i can assure that headgasket was replaced properly using a genuine part.
It ran fine in jonathons car, bit strange to blow so soon.
Have you done a leak down test on it?

And remember, 7mgte's are notorious for munching headgaskets.

All I can say is.... MAKE SURE YOU GET SOME OF THAT STUFF THAT PRETTY MUCH MELTS THEM OFF THE HEAD AND BLOCK.

You'll save yourself HOURS of time :x

Dont you mean rereplacing?

Any way you will need a touque wrench.
The head isnt corroded? I hope for your sake that it isnt and you didnt get it hot did you?? Warped cracked or corroded head/block means major headaches major dollars.
good luck
