Hilux 22R - Gearbox/diff conversion

Postby blownAE92 » Thu Jul 29, 2004 8:13 pm

Hey...
Managed to pick up a 2.4 Hilux d/cab rather cheaply, and was toying with the idea of changing the ratio's on the gearbox/diff in order to improve accelaration as it just does'nt cut it going from a redtop to a deadstop...if you know what i'm saying, I dont want to swop the motor out as it has just been rebuilt really well. Future mods down the line would include a set of sides...Is there anyone out there who could suggest either changing the ratio's on the box (ie installing a donor box) or changing the ratio's on the diff...NB...the ute will not be used for loads but rather as a daily driver and i need to get the 0-ton much quicker than I am now....any advice appreciated.

Is it 2wd or 4wd
Look at the build plate under the bonnet on the firewall. Post everything it says so we can work out what gearbox you have and what diff ratio.
Is it a column shift or a floor shift?
There might be a few options depending on what you have.
