Big end issues?

Postby pimpinmah0z » Wed Aug 25, 2004 5:38 pm

Right i have a horrid suspision that my big ends are about to royally shit there entrails.
Cars a Celica ST182 3SGE
When i start the car it sounds ok but whenever i take off theres a sort of clunking sound. its sounds kinda gluggy.
however when i reach about 3000 rpm the sound goes away, or when the car is warm.
this makes me think its not the big ends, cos someone told me that big ends would get louder when warm not quieter?
Can anyone suggest whether it is my big ends or not, and a way to find out for sure?

Big end issues?

Apart from first thing on a cold start (until the oil pressure builds up) big end rattle usually relates to load. At 3000 rpm and throttle barely cracked open, there is hardly any load on the bearings, and the noise goes away. Let it slow down to 1500 rpm in a high gear, and then give it a bit of throttle.... that will load up the engine and should get your bearings rattling nicely :)
