Crank Angle sensor????........

Postby 3T-Rona » Wed Sep 08, 2004 5:27 pm

Right i need help from the emensly intulectual Toyota Peeps :D
What Toyota motors (if any) come standard with crank angle sensors????? I wouldnt mind putting a black top 4AGE (20v) in my KP61 (just like Quinten from club K) but i dnt want to go cutting my fire wall, as im quite attached to the lil fella :D :D :D . so im wondering what the possiblities of a crank angle sensor and coil packs is....... just a thought any way other wise ill stick with a 16v as the distributor is at the oposite end...
any help is always appreciated
Cheers

The factory 20V dizzy is a crank angle sensor, you can use that to trigger a link and run a wasted spark coil setup. Works well. 8)

Hey,

All you need to do is remove the dizzy cap and have a 'cover' turned up with holes to screw it onto the dizzy. When you purchase a link ECU you just tell them what crank pickups you are using and they send you a diagram with how to wire it up. I can E-mail you some pics if you think that would help. 8)

oooooooooooooooooooh i c, u r a smart lil bugger aint u :D :D :D yeh pics r good just for a general 'oh yip'..... so a link computer has to be run to do this? so would that cut dwn the size of the dizzy so the fire wall dsnt need to be cut.....

Note however that the cam angle sensor, although it will give you the correct triggers, isn't the best solution for crank sensing. Because the cams are belt driven and the cam angle sensor is driven off the back of the cam there is a few degrees of differentiation between cam and crank sensing. IE the belt stretches and the cam twists slightly. This shouldn't effect operation that much however if your going hard out then a true crank angle sensor should be used in conjunction with your cam angle sensors.

Even if your cam angle sensors will fit without trimming the firewall you might still have issues with the heater piping. I know the 86 has to be altered for heater piping.

Yip, a link or other after market ECU is required. Redmist is right about the varying signal you can get from the belt slap/stretch. But it is fine for most applications (as almost all factory Jap cars use this sytem!). Send me a PM with your E-mail and I will flick you some pictures that will help. :D
