manifold cut n shut.

Postby kingcorolla » Fri Sep 10, 2004 3:54 am

i gotta get around to cut and shutting my 4a-ge inlet manifold, to suit RWD setup.

wondering for anyone out there with expierence, to tell me the best way..

1). getting a new hole machined in opposite side, and drill and tap new studs and threads. and sealing up previous hole..?

or..

2). slicing off existing entry, (and slicing other side as well,) and just swap them around,

anyone done this?

or

3) Get a bluetop manifold?

Oh, and I've just cut the end off my redtop manifold and had a flange welded on. Get the old throttle body and cut the right shaped flange to suit it and weld it on :)

Red Top Manifold FWD to RWD Conversion

Postby jondee86 » Fri Sep 10, 2004 10:03 pm

Here are some pics of my 16 valve small port inlet
manifold conversion. I cut both ends off, and welded
the closed end back on. For the throttle body mounting
I got an old blue top FWD manifold and cut the end off
that and welded it onto the red top manifold.

Reason I did that was to get a bit more length on the
flanged bit to make a better match before welding.

On the side I cut the boss out of the blue top manifold
and welded it into a hole cut in the side of the red top
manifold. Bit of fiddling around, but I finished up with
the bracket for the throttle cable in the same position
as it is on a stock RWD manifold.

Might be of some help :)
