Motec M4 pro and wide lambda

Postby Wolf_Tm250 » Tue Oct 26, 2004 5:33 am

Hello,

I ha ve a Motec M4 pro on my ST205, and I did not bought Motec's Lambda optional kit because I already owned Tech edge wide band kit.

Question is:

can I log into Motec the wide band signal, not to use the lambda feature, but only to log it and read it with Motec software ?

Thank you

No. But the MoTeC wide lambda function is enabled for a few hours after the ECU is first used so you might be able to use the Tech edge sensor during this time if it is compatible.

You could log the output of your wideband setup as a analogue voltage input on your motec(If m4 allows this, M8 could do it, been ages since I played with an m4)It won't display lambda or a/f ratio but at the end of the day a reading is a reading regardless of the number you get & somewhere I've got the conversion figures for both bosch & ntk sensors, else I think it's in the motec PLM software. Else you can still get m4 options enabled, haven't got my price list at home to give you an idea of cost.

Exactly what I need !

Only log it, not to use Motec's lambda function !

Btw could you please see for the enabling price, and, if possible, see what pin I have to use as an analogue voltage input ?

Thank you, bye !

Without having a good look at the wiring it's hard to know what has been wired up to each pin & how the ecu has been configured. Your best bet would be to get the drawings from motec.com.au or the ecu software which is also on the site & see what options you have left. Then you will need to connect via laptop to the ecu which requires the motec 9 pin serial cable, a standard db9 doesn't work. Once connected via laptop yu'll have to go through the options to find the auxiallary inputs etc. Not 100% sure what menu this is under as it's been over a year since I last had the m4/48/8 software open to play with.

Aux V on the M4 is pin 18. I would only recommend this if your wide band meter has an auxilluary voltage output (which I assumed 8O it didn't but a quick check of the website suggests that some of them do), but having had some experience calibrating sensors on my M48 I suspect it's a: not going to be easy and b: not particularly worthwhile (could be wrong though :)). You also won't be able to take advantage of the lambda-specific logging options and will only get a numerical representation that you will have to convert to afr.

IIRC the wide lambda option is about $900 NZ.

Also newer M4s don't need the Motec ECU cable, you can use a standard serial cable.

I have two output from my lambda kit, and I think I could use both of them:
- a narrow simulated band signal
- a linear wide band output ( I can easily turn into an AFR )

Thank you.

Bye
