Paint Color

Postby sprint » Tue Nov 09, 2004 10:52 am

Im doing some touch up work on my paint, i.e a little bit of surface rust and stone chips etc. I was wondering how to get the closest colour to what my car is as there are about 30 diffferent versions of white. The car is an 1988 and has the color code 043. If any one know the name of that colour or an equivelant to it it would be much appreciated.

if you were to contact toyota they would be able to tell you where to get the paint as they should know their codes :)

I think 043 is offwhite or newwhite...

I just used the color charts at repco.

I just went to an autopaint store, i think it was called auto colour, and they fixed my up with an exact match for an 1985 model.

edit: It was $60 for 1 can of black, 2 cans of red match and the excess red match they give to you for free.

To mix a paint *properly* you need the following:

Colour code
Car type and model
Model year
A sample

Colour codes are actually for that model and year, so 043 on a 93 Celica will be different to a 99 Corolla.

Different paints age differently and the application process itself can alter the colour, scheen, silver content, reflectivity etc so they need a sample for fine tuning.
