i have access to a te71 tank and im wondering if i could use it in my 4age ae85 to help with surge problems, rather than make up a surge tank

might sound stupid, but make sure that the tank is from an EFI te71.

both my te71's were 2t-b, so i couldnt tell you were the efi pump is mounted.

It is definately a efi tank, would it be worth putting in the ae85?

TE71/2T-GE tanks are external pumps, I believe there are internally baffled so if it is a straight bolt in then it would help.

I have done conversions with a factory AE85 tank, surge tank and two pumps that will not get any fuel surge even with as little as 3L of fuel in the tank! I think it would be ok with less too but I did not want to risk a pump, I had proven what I wanted. :D

Even with a factory AE86 tank in my race car it would get fuel surge when at about 10L. :( :!:

even with 10L still in the tank 8O hmm i didnt think that would be the case spose it all depends how fast or hard ya throw her round the corners then, what set up have you used with 86 tank then just a new pump ?

Well, since I got TE71 with 2TGEU and AE86 4AGE,.....

I have never ever have surging problem in my TE71 when drifitng.. even when the warning light (low fuel) came on and i still drift for a few more laps at Manfeild.... all good.

TE71 have external pump.. located just infront of the fuel tank/above the diff.
AE86 have intank.

AE86.. i have surging problem with 1/4 of tank of gas while drifting... that's about 10L as NZ_AE86 just metioned before. It even surge when i accelerate from a stop sign and tuning right to an open of 100km/h!... that's about 1/4 of tank again! :?

So, yeah, TE71 EFI setup must be great on AE85(with efi 4ag) or maybe even AE86! They boths seems to be the same... so should be a bolt on job.

you might aswell bite the bullet and get a surge tank.. whats it gonna cost you?

$100 stainless surge tank
$60-70 lift pump
and whatever you want to pay for your main pump

not much point swapping the fuel tank over and reconfiguring your fuel lines only to find that it surges and you need to upgrade again.. youll probably end up paying at least $100 for an ae86/te71 tank anyways.

Im running Facet lift pump, TE71 external fuel pump and a 2L surge tank in my bluetop KE70.. you can hear the lift pump running dry when cornering on a low tank but it dosent effect the engine at all cause of the surge tank

I took the AE86 tank out and put an AE85 tank in with an external lift pump filling the surge tank and a Bosch inline pump keeping the injectors happy from there. The AE86 tank was ok for hill climbs and road sprints but when you are at a track your mostly cornering harder for longer and this seemed to cause the surge. With the new setup it is perfect. :D
