yeah its called "if you dont know what your doing get a pro to do it :P"
as for this hole in the gearbox where is it located?? if its only into the clutch area (get a plate for it, dosn't take much to tap 4 holes and stick a piece of steel over it to stop stones etc getting into it.) it might have nothing to do with the raunching of the gears etc.

first thing i would do is bleed the clutch system and go from there as celica_tommo said, look for leaks also THEN start looking at the more $$ things.

Are you sure it has a hole in it? I thought my old one had a hole where the bellhousing met the engine at the bottom of the box but I took a look at another one and it was exactly the same so must just be the shape of the housing. This was a facelift ae101 gt-apex so it has the same box as yours.

I think most gearboxes have a rectangle chunk out of the bottom to let water, oil, transmission fluid out pressumably

just got the mechanics to take everything apart and now its confirmed that the clutch is doing fine and no problem at all apart from excessive wear but the actual g/box is pretty much f**ked up :?

would anyone know anything about fitting a bzr g/box into bzg? would the 6speed fit into where the old gearbox sits? or would I need some modification to "make it fit"? I tried searching for it but couldn't find one but I'm sure theres ppl who's done it before...(hopefully.. )

thank you all 8)

oh forgot to ask, how much would i be looking at for both 5speed and 6speed g/box?

you have to change your shift clabes and your shifter to change to the 6speed apart from that it's a straight swap

what are you gonna do with the old box?
