exhaust carbon

Postby phat_levin » Wed Nov 10, 2004 11:56 pm

couldnt find this in the search, how long does it take to carbon up the inside of a new exhaust? ive just got a new one and the guy said once it got carboned up it will quieten down a bit....
its a 20v silvertop and it sounds a tad tinny up the front somewhere when you're inside the car so im thinking/hoping that a bit of carbon might fix it?.... :(

..sounds BS to me. See how it is in a week. If it still rattles then go back and ask him why he fed you that crap to cover his ass.

hard luck bro.

he did tell me that before he put it on, he was recommended to me by a guy from mag and turbo who had his dun by the same guy......maybe somethings loose......
idles reeeeeeaaaal nice tho, gets a tad tinny sounding at about 3k rpm and at certain revs it kind of whistles. i will get someone to drive it so i can hear it from outside the car.
oh, also from the inside it sounds quite tinny wen its cold but that goes away after a while.......
fun and games ay

As a brand new exhaust carbons up it does get quieter (or change tone) however it is only a small difference, you will hear a diff but like i say it is only a very small amount. It shouldnot take too long ie a week or two before it is covered in carbon given how rich a 20v runs

may mate was told the same thing, but i told him its a 20v, its always going to sound like that.

In saying that, another mate had a action dan system and ran 2 extra resonators in it, sounded really nice for a 20v.

mine :)

2 and a quarter, through 2 18" resinators, NON coby, to an rps muffler / tip etc.

nice and deep, and when vvt comes on, it rises a note, not like vtec, that absoutly high pitch noise, just a bit more of a twang, nice noise i think :).

nice and deep.

Yes brand new mufflers do change there note and quiten down after a bit of time as they carbon up.

As for how long, it does take a while, possibly a month.
