missing and code 14 diagnostics

Postby IH8TEC » Sun Nov 14, 2004 8:23 pm

ok, my problem stared a little while ago, it hasa little miss that you can hear at idol, seems to pop a little too much at idol for my liking. jsut changed plugs. not leads yet though. umm but since about 4 weeks ago, i can be driving my car, the check light comes on, and it just dies. or when i come to the lights, it jstu dies. or i can jsut be driving along really sedately, and the check light comes on.

so i get home check the codes, and it comes up with 14, which is ignition, so i looked at http://www.club4ag.com/faq%20and%20tech ... 0Codes.htm adn it says ignition which is about right.

this is the diagnosis "No IGF signal to ECU for 4 consecutive IGT signal during engine running "

common areas "Open/short in IGF/IGT signal from igniter to ECU -
Igniter malfunction - ECU"

now what is IGF and IGT, and what could be my problem,

any help would be great, going on the dyno on saturday, need to get fixed.

cheers

IGF and IGT are ecu pin codes. You need to test continuity between the igniter plug pins and the correct ecu pin to test for an open curcuit.

to test the IGF wire,(assuming its a silvertop?) facing the ecu plug side, connect a multi meter to the forth pin from the left on the top row on the largest plug, (should be black and yellow,) and you should find continuity on the corresponding igniter plug pin.

to test the IGT wire, (facing ecu plug side) connect multi meter probe to the 5th pin on the right on bottom row, on the largest ecu plug, (should be black) and find continuity on corresponding igniter plug pin.

you should have continuity between both IGT and IGF wires, if not then find the break in the curcuit. IF YOU DO, and the problem persists, then my guess is a faulty igniter or ecu.

hope that helps.

hey, cheers for that, it's a ae92 afm 4agze though, i'm assuming it would be a similar process though just different pin positions?

oh sorry dude! i somehow assumed you have a silvertop 20v

in that case the IGF (still black and yellow wire) is the 3rd pin from the left on the top row of the largest ecu plug,

and IGT (still black wire) is the 7th from the right on the bottom row (largest ecu plug)

just probe one of these ecu pins and try to find continuity on the other side (igniter plug)

my bad dude

*edit: Im reading these ecu pin outs out of a book dude, if it was from a website id tell you the addy.
