the fan makes a hell of a difference, check when your thermostat opens, if you dont know how to do this, remove from housing, drop in cold water, say a pan on the stove, or a kettle, with 2 wires attached to it, 1 loping around the *holder*, and the other loping through the actual opening part of the thermostat, chuck a thermostate (guage) into the mix, and set the kettle to boil, keep checking the temp, and check to excactly when it opens, it might be opening way to late, causing an overheat.

chaces of this are about 1000 - 1. Thermostats either open, or they stick.
Not saying the thermostat is not faulty, id just say you get your fan working 1st, then see what happens.

1. Unplug the fan thermo-time switch on the thermostat housing with the key on, if the fan operates when you unplug it, replace the switch.

2. If not, then apply 12v to the fan itself to see if the fans faulty.

3. If not, check the relay,

4. if thats fine, theres a faulty connection somewere.
