What valve springs for reliable 8000rpm?

Postby ATAl » Thu Jan 20, 2005 12:18 pm

On a small port 16 valve 4age with blue top cams what valve springs will let the engine sit at 8000rpm (just considering the head here, not the block) without letting go? Will good condition stock ones do this or should I go aftermarket?

If aftermarket is the way I need some springs which fit in the factory position, will last at the very least 50 000km and are the same or only slightly higher spring pressure as factory items. Can anyone recommend some - preferably with personal experience with them.

Thanks

Talk to vvega, he is a good engine builder.

Firstly, why are you wanting to sit at 8K rpm for extended periods of time? Unless you have a decent cam to utilise those rev's you're wasting time. In which case you'll be needing a whole lot more than stronger valve springs. Talk to redmist from here about building a tough 4age or do a search, there's some good info hiding on these boards.

If you are talking about caning a motor around at 8krpm frequently, I don't think that anything will last up to 50 000km. What are you building this motor for? I don't think that valve springs will be your highest concern.

Basically I need these revs to utilise the turbo on the engine - it only starts making decent boost at 5000 and pulls to 8000 no problems.

I figure since the stock redline is 7500 another 500 rpm shouldn't be too hard to get.

8k is no problem for a 4age, just gota make sure you use good conrod bolts like arp.
the best springs would be trd
not expensive either
