hey.

mates got a 1988 corolla hatch. xl i think. 1500cc
how much do u reakon to get a new headgasket for it, the mechanic told him its blown. the guy quoted $800 bucks installed.

wat u guys think, i dont know much bout prices for new items and installing. cheers.

I think an 88 XL will have a 2E 1300. If so, do I have the deal for you!! If you can find someone to do it I have a complete headset minus the valve stem seals that I have no use for.

You can have it for $30.

Oh, and Im sure one of the TS members from down there will do it for a hundy or so.

As for new prices, I think the RRP on a head gasket alone is around $80ish and at a guess $200 labour so $800 is reeeeeeeal steep

my olds just got a new headgasket on their 2e and that was $1100. my stepdad pulled it all apart so it was a bit of a mish for the mechanic to put it all back (albeit a 2e)

my real dad got one on his 4a and that was $800. if you can find someone to do it though the gasket set costs fuk all and its not like there is anything difficult about it. $600-650 of that quote would be labour...
