4Age idles rough

Postby fxgt4age » Sun Mar 13, 2005 10:54 pm

I recently brought my first car for myself thats a 91 FX-GT. It had a major oil leak and the cam and crankseals had gone, so i fixed them did the rocket cover gasket, seals, belts, cam belts, you name ive fixed it this last weekend.

Unfortunately the car runs rough and it stalls moving from stop starts or slow takeoffs. It idles at about 800 rpm and sometimes drops to 500. Im assuming that it could be the ignition timing and will soon fix it. But a small issue has bugged me for a while.

The VIN plate on the car says that it is a 1300cc engine, and the registration before i got it said it was a manual 1300. The car has a Redtop 4AGE 1600 cc in it with automatic transmission? seems suspicious.

My question is, would the engine be able to run at all off the old 1300cc computer and whoever owned the car before me did a botch job of it? or could i just be worried over nothing and its just ignition timing?

Cheers
Nic

Nah, the 2E came out as a 2E-E as well (went a LOT better than the carby jobs, and redlined at 7 too which was nice). Should be running a 4AGE computer with a 4AGE engine. Is it just the idle thats the problem? Crank the idle up with the adjustment on the throttle body if thats the only trouble.

Could I ask what you did to fix it?

The rough idle? sure, i did a engine flush, replaced the plugs and did the ignition timing.

So much work on this car so far, now i know why it was so cheap, but dam its quick.
