5mge cambelt replacement

Removal

1. Remove timing belt covers.

2. Rotate engine clockwise until the timing marks are aligned as per the diagram.

3. Remove the tensioner and spring.


Measure the tensioner spring free length.
Spring Free Length 69mm.

4. Remove timing belt.


Installation


1. Timing marks must be aligned.

2. Fit the tensioner and spring.

3. Lever the tensioner away from the belt and tighten the tensioner locking bolt.

4. Fit the timing belt in this order:
Camshaft 1
Camshaft 2
Auxiliary
Crankshaft
Tensioner.

5. Loosen tensioner bolt.

6. Rotate engine clockwise, two revolutions to #1 TDC compression stroke.

7. Check timing marks are aligned.

8. Tighten tensioner locking bolt.

9. Make sure the belt tension is equal between "A" & "B" (on diagram).

Tightening Torques


Camshaft Gear bolts.
69Nm

Crankshaft Bolt.
216Nm

Front Cover Bolts.
10Nm

Tensioner Bolt.
49Nm

Auxiliary Pulley Bolt.
22Nm


R&R Time

2.2 hours (add 0.5 hours for air conditioning)
