3 Angle Valve Grind

Postby ee904age » Fri Apr 08, 2005 11:14 pm

Hey,
Now Im a little confused when it comes to this. I've read in a few mags etc on high perf engines they get a 3 Angle Valve Grind.

After stripping my 4AG head I've noticed what I would consider a 3 angle grind.

I've only stripped 2 other heads but they both only had one angle on the valve seat. (one being a 4K, the other being a Bluetop)

Heres a poorly drawn pic of what I've got

Is it? or Is it not?

probably, remember a lot of 'performance' shops are used to dealing with pushrods.

Get a 5 angle!!

A 3 angle valve grind gives good flow but still allows the valve to get good cooling (large surface contact between valve and head). Its probably best for stock valves. If you go 5 angle you get less cooling on the valve which increases the risk of it over heating and dropping. If you completely smooth it then you need to upgrade to lithium filled steams or something to help with cooling.
