W55 is one of the factory options for the 18rg

T50 is the 2TG box ,but other boxes can be adapted to fit.

same series of engines although the starter could be on the wrong side , depending on bell-housing

I believe all the R series run the starter on the drivers side, at least all the 18RG's I hve seen do. I would assume the rest of the non crossflow R series family would run the starter on drivers side as well since inlet/exhaust are crammed in on the passengers side.

I have a R motor to W gearbox bellhousing $75.
Any W55, W57, W58 gearbox will bolt onto this bellhousing.
W55's are most common. Might cost up to $250. Search around... don't pay too much! I've never paid more than $100 for one (but then I've searched in some pretty shitty places!).
W gearboxes have different shifter positions so do a bit of homework as to what shifter position will suit you the best.
Make sure you get a driveshaft that will fit into the back of the gearbox.
You will probably have to get this bit of driveshaft cut and welded onto your drive shaft. Any driveshaft out of a W gearbox (as above), G gearbox (found in liteaces, hilux, hiace), also many auto toyota cars, will fit fine.
Also grab the gearbox crossmember - you will have to adapt it to fit you car but if you can get all these bits at the same time it will save you some stress.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

a bit off topic but are saying all r series bellhousings compatible with different r series engines? for example could i put my 3spd box currently behind a 12R behind a 18RGU?
