power equals fast?

Postby TRDmod » Sun Apr 24, 2005 1:28 am

ok, heres the thing, my car 164.8kw at the wheels.....so that makes it roughly 210-215 kw at the engine?

would my car bef aster than a gsr? or a wrx NON STI...u know the normal ones? or is it cos my cars kerb weight is 1470kgs, which makes it slower in the end cos of its weight?

what can my car beat in a straight line...what cars i mean in roughly same class, THEORETICALLY...

thanks yall

ok, I know shit all about cars really, but in physics power is distance/time/mass, so a lighter car generating less power could go faster than a heavier car generating more power.

should be able to take out stock WRX/GSR as the wrx makes that much at the fly, and the gsr makes less, but depends on other crap like gear ratios, torque.. meh

TRDMod, your calculations are a bit off. There is no way your loosing 30% in driveline losses. With 4wd your typically loosing about 20% so your running approximatly 197 kw at the flywheel. There is no way to tell without a coastdown.
As people have stated, just because you have power doesn't mean your quicker. It depends on weight, CG, contact patch, rubber, geometry, gear and final drive ratio's and aerodynamic effects.
The answer is Helmholtz!

Also depends on the type of race. lighter lower power cars such as corollas, civics etc may be able to thrash the big tanky v8's and skylines in short distance standing start races. But on the longer distance races such as 1/4 mile the higher power cars will usually thrash them. (generally speaking)

You would probably be able to manage to squeeze off a mid to low 13 second pass at around 100mph with that power. Enough to see off most GSR's.

jsut cuiors, i went to puke, and on the straight, i was literally keeping up with a sti 2000 wrx....on the straight on corners it had the better of me, and of course better rubbers he had too, mines crud, but i was keeping up on the straight but on the corners he would jsut keep gaining away.....
but yeah, jsut curious.....i guess i should take it to the track, mere mere i mean...but im not into drag racing though, im a circuit man...jsut curoius though thanks for the info,

i kinda knew gsrs and stock wrx non stis are not as fast and power full....
but evos are a step up to the gt4s in terms of stock power.....

i know my car seems to have good top end, i mean i have driven evos before, and it seems to be very comparable to them...in terms of speed....anwyays, thanks guys, any more input and feedback or critisism, please, i welcome them, i like to hear all
