4AGE 16V and 4AGZE Alternator differences?

Postby aesc » Fri Apr 22, 2005 1:39 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me the differences in the above? Iv seen pics of them both and they look very similar and pulleys both are 5PK etc. Do the mounting points line up ok? Anything anyone could tell me would be good.

Cheers

4agze one is similar. i used a 4age one and it bolted up , but i had to reroute the belt as the top mounting hole is sorta opposite to the 4agze eg its 5cmish to the left and the other one to the right.. hard to explain. connectors etc are all the same

Oh i see, i think i know what your saying. So really it will sit further towards the front of the car than the 4agze one does ie to the right say 5cm? Did you have to use a slightly larger belt at all?

How possible would it be just to transfer the internals between the two alternators? Or is part of them a sealed unit?

they are different
the 4agze has a wider base mounting bracket by about 8mm, and unless you can modify the alternator it wont fit.

From memory the pulley on the 4agze alternator sticks out further than the 4age one also.

Most of the internals are interchangable, but obviously the shaft is longer in the 4agze alt and I dont think you can eaily get the windings out.

So if its just the brushes or electronics in you gze alt that are cooked you can rebuild it using parts from a different alternator
