damn coffee on my monitor.

Right, anyway, discs rust when you don't use the car. They will actually even get a light coating of rust overnight.

Haha yeah everytime I wash my car the rotors go rusty. And for some reason they seem to work a HELL OF A LOT better than normally for the first few times I use the brakes, until the rust wears off. Weird

That'll be because the pads are gripping a rough surface, instead of smooth shiney metal.

i'm not sure, but i'm positive that my tutor told me when I kept commenting on it last year that it was generally normal unless the amount of rust was excessive

Phatman3801:
It's not anything to actually worry about to be honest as there wont be enough surface rust to compromise the rotor.
If you are really worried (and your car is going to be sitting for years) you can buy a silicon spray to protect them HOWEVER you will need to clean them up thoroughly before you drive your car again, the silicon won’t promote effective braking and will be rather hazardous. I stored my race car for months on end without use and I never had a problem. So relax, have a coffee and get your baby back on the road :)
