Help With Lowering a SuperStrut Celica HELP!

Postby Sav » Wed May 11, 2005 9:33 pm

well i own a 97 celica and are wanting to lower it.

went into mcleanen (spelling) in wellington.
They said it would cost $1500 to lower it 30mm because its super strut!!

anyone know much about lowering a SS car? is it not as simple as putting in some new ss springs?

please help!

It's amazing how much misinformation there is out there with regards to superstrut suspension
Did they say eaxctly why it would cost $1500 to supply and fit 4 x -30mm springs? I can only assume that they know absolutely nothing about the set up on these cars. Go somewhere that does know so you won't get ripped off.

Sav,
MacLennan's is a top notch outfit and won't put you crook.
Like with all companies though, it's important to talk to the right guy.
Steve, one of the owners, is a suspension specialist & one of the most knowledgeable guys you'll find anywhere.

We can do TRD lowering springs but they're only going to drop your car 20 ~ 25mm. Send me a pm or email if you want a price. I think we've got some in stock.

cheers

For the uninitiated superstrut takes a bit more effort to disassemble that is all. I can pull a front strut in maybe half an hour but I've done it a few times so I know the tricks. You obviously need springs designed for superstrut, not for MacPherson strut.

I think the main issue is that the system confuses mechanics used to commodores and corollas. It's not a big deal IMHO.

ok that was good info..
what springs are there that can lower more than 30mm? maybe 40-50mm?
can the normal shocks take a drop of that amount without a problem?

TRD ones were only 20-30mm which isnt even much..

Ok so im guess all i need is some springs which will be bout $500-$600 and then labour to install it?

thats all?

anyone know what springs i can use to lower 40-50mm?
heard that kings are quite tight and that TRD dont do ones more than 30mm. so if Dobisport do 40-50mm ones they are where i should head?

Cheers for all the info and helping me save the money

Ok some more info i have been told is that if they are lowered and you bottom them out then they end up blowing the valva on the bottom of the suspension, which in end means that yours shocks are stuffed.

make any sence to anyone?
