power steering rack with no power steering pump?

recently i find my power steering pump pulley goes like a hip hop dancer,makes lot of noise/looks awful

so i remove the power steering assembly

someone told me yesterday,if i steer without powersteering assist on a power steering rack,, i probably damage the steering column

is it true>>???

by the way it's a toyota

yeah, you'll probably damage it, and you can't get warrants without a functioning ps system, unless you do a full non-ps conversion. This can be easy or hard depending on what car it's on.

yeap you will damage the teflon seal that divides the 2 chambers without lubracation
wont hurt if you are gunna replace the rack anyways.....

want a ae86, dont want to pay 8 grand for one
have to settle for my ae92
