Correct Tyre Size For AE101 Levin

Postby Fat Mat » Mon May 23, 2005 11:46 am

Hi all, just wanting to know what the best suited tyre size is for a 1991 Ae101 levin? Currently has 195/45/r14. I am looking at puting on some 17's and have seen some with 205/40/r17's? will these fit or will i need to put on 205/45...? Cheers

afaik, 205/40 17 is the most common tyre for 17s, should be close enough to standard diameter overall. how wide are the 17s you intend getting? the above is definently suitable for a 7" wide rim :)

Hey Thanks for the tyre link. Only that poses afew questions. If the correct tyre size is 185/60/r14 and the current wheels i have are 195/45/r14 then my speedo should have been recalibrated for this tyre size? otherwise i would not get any speeding tickets? The main question is it easy and cost effective to get a speedo recalibrated? or should i stick to a tyre size that will not effect the existing calibration? and how can you tell wat the current calibration is?

id say that you just have the incorect size... an odd one at that.

stick with 185/60/14 as your proper "control" figures...

get a mate to drive a long at an agreed speed and see whay your speedo says.. try it at several speeds

those overall diameters arent goin to make a big difference. you can legally go up to 10% bigger in overall diameter without recalibration or cert.

205/40/17 will b sweet on 7" rims
how bout i dont n just say i did? mmm trd

It's + or - 5% legally. Yes those diameters will make a big difference 195/45/14 is 8% smaller (146mm circ) than 185/60/14 which the car came with.
