Hilux LSD questions

Postby UTERUS » Wed May 25, 2005 8:04 pm

The single spinner is getting quite lame, sooo.......

Can i put an lsd head straight into the non lsd case?

If not what will i need? Eg: axles etc....
and are all the hilux lsd's the same apart from the ratios? I have a g series diff at the moment so as long as i get another g series i should be ok?

Cheers,

Simon

yes it will bolt it
unsure on the axles, but every toyota lsd iv seen has shorter (only by mm) than the non lsd version.

not many ratio variations... if any

Yes. Found that out myself, the only difference being that hilux diffs come with either I think a 4.5:1 or 4.3:1 ratio crown & pinion. The LSD clutch pack will fit straight in.

you can even put a 'G' series diff from a older supra(ma70) or a cressida(mx81), into your hilux diff head, but you can't go the other way. take it to steelie gears and get it shimmed tighter only about $200, and run redline super shockproof gear oil, it the best lsd, detriot locker gearoil.
you may need to machine a couple of mm of the end of the axles(is about 5mm in a ae86) so asume hilux is the same.
UTERUS, i noticed your ute is an '88,mine is too but must be older model as i have dx style brown square style dash,do you know if the dashes can be swapped? between models?

Cheers for the info. I'm not sure if the dashs are interchangeable, you are welcome to come have a look too see where it mounts etc
