Toyota diesel engines interchangibility

Postby mops » Wed Jun 01, 2005 1:35 pm

Hello.
I'm wanting to build a diesel project car.

Ideally I would get a hilux single cab SWB ute (non-4WD), that normally comes with 2.4 diesel engine, and I would ike to drop in a 3L turbo diesel motor.

I was wondering whether the diesel engines have the same mounts. I mean Hiaces come with diesel engines 2.4 and 2.8 and 3.0 and 3.0 turbo, therefore I presume the engine mounts will be the same, right ???

If not does anyone know how difficult (in terms of $$$) would be to rearange engine mounts to siut.

Thanks in advance.

I was involved with a project that transplantd what you want to do.

Mounts were different but the biggest problem was the gearbox.
This was and auto 2.8 to a 3.0 turbo auto.

a complete 1KZTE will set you back somewhere between $3 and 4 grand depending on how later vehicle it comes out of.

My guess is that if you swap 2.4l (2L engine) to ether 2.4l turbo (2L-T), 2.8l (3L), or 3l (5L engine), you can use your old g/box as those engines are same series and should have same/similar mounts, but when it comes to 3.0l turbo engine (1KZ-TE) it is different engine, you will have to do some more wiring as well as it has got ECU controlled diesel pump. but if I wanted to transplant diesel to diesel I would defenetly go for 1KZ-TE engine...

Wiring is not a problem for me.
Getting the engine mounts rearanged/ aligned, etc would be a problem for me. Definitely i wanna go for 1kz-te

i think the 1kz bolts up to the manual boxes ok.... or at least the bellhousing does, i know some ppl that have converted ln130s to 1kz engines. why not wait a bit and get the latest 1kd-te, they EAT the 1kz
