High rev gear change

It was a little wet the other day and i was coming pulling out onto a road heading upwards, and it spun up to like 7500-8000 rpm and i went to change fast to 2nd and it wouldn't let me .
My friend has a wrx sti v6 and ive noticed when in his car (only done 60kms) that when he near red lines this also sometimes happens (can not get into 2nd)

TPPS. Generally enabled from the factory but for certain drivers only.

If you were able to semi match the RPM to the gear then you wouldnt have any trouble shifting. Trouble is, the higher the RPM the more critical the RPM match for the next gear.

arnt the fwd c seris boxes prone to not likling high rpm quick changes?

That is common in most gearboxes and refered to as balking (spelling?) standard synchros just cant handle the revs and the speed at which your trying to shift.
Some gearbox builders have been known to cut small grooves into the synchro rings which give the gear oil a way to squeeze out of the ring faster (as its often the oil that stops the synchro engaging) and allows quick changes.
In reallity you just need to slow down the gearshift but dont be scared to use the rev limiter
