faq 4age specs

Postby ChaosAD » Thu Jul 28, 2005 9:36 pm

does anyone have rebuild specs for the 4ages to post on the faq?
I have a silvertop rod that ran a bearing and I need to find out if its still within spec. It looks visually fine but may still be out of spec.

Also, the "4A-GEU/GELU Technical Specifications OEM" chart in the faq section states that the 88-89 ae92 tvis 4age has the same size crank pin and piston pin as the bluetop :?

hmmm i cant seem to find anything to say otherwise anyway- i was under the distinct impression the low comp tvis 7 rib (red and black top) had the same rods as the high comp, and the 4agze ones were the same size also???

Thats what I mean, as far as I know all 4age/ze's have 42mm crank pins and 20mm piston pins EXCEPT for the bluetop which has 40mm crank pins and 18mm piston pins.

However the chart states that the red/blacktop has the 40mm crank pins and 18mm piston pins.

RICKGT> those pages were a good read, but I couldnt find the specs I was after. The rod ran a bearing and I want to check with an inside micrometer that the bigend is still within spec.

If you took the crank journal diameter specs and added on the thickness of the bearing shells, you'd be getting pretty close. Any ideas on how thick a film the oil runs at over the bearings? Isn't there something called Plastigauge that could possibly help you out?

Plastigauge? isnt that what noah used to check the clearance on his arc?
Im not even sure you can still get it, and would be very weary of any engine builder who even suggests to use it.

I dont have the shells, just want to know if the rods are within spec before putting them on trademe.
