Have you noticed that petrol prices have been going up, but not oil prices?

Used to use Mobil 1 but a couple of years ago there were a couple of posts on here or on SDU where people had found that it suddenly went gluey. Was probably just a bad batch or something but after that I changed and now i quite like only spending half as much on oil that seems to do the same thing.

yep, exactly what happened to 2 of our cars running Mobil 1!! The engine just siezed all of a sudden!! Took it a apart and in the sump the oil was like a yellow glue - keep away from that shit - trust me!!

Ive used the semi synthetic valvoline, but cos it chews through the oil now i just use the cheapest ok stuff now (Protec or helix)

Spot on the money.

Make sure the rubber gasket is still in contact with the old oil filter, and not stuck to the block. Before applying oil filter, run a film of new oil around the seal, and if you want, on the thread itself. (i always think im going to cut myself when i do the thread :D).

Make sure you check that the oil presure sensor is working before starting her up (turn key on, check oil pressure light...), start car, wait until light turns off, check oil level, top up, yada yada.

easier to do when oil is warm / hot im told >.> ive noticed no difference, apart from burning my hand :D. mmm aquard (sp?) position X_X.

My 20v got 10w 30 Titan oil from BNT.
Gfs Mr2 got 5w 60 Penrite from Cooke Howison Toyota, then after not being able to find it in oamaru,
We opted out and got 10w 30 (as specified), Penzoil.

No problems with any of above oil, Filters used were either Toyota geniune, or TRD.

they take less than 4 litres - at a guess i'd say about 3.
If you buy a 4 litre of oil then you will have some left for top ups.
