91 4age Cooling System Being Weird (Extreeemy cold)

Postby gordon77 » Tue Aug 30, 2005 11:20 pm

ok my car is being real weird and has been since it has been winter.
when its slightly cold and has some sort of airflow (driving above 20 kmh) the temp stays at about 5 - 10% on the guage. the revs at idle sit at about 1400.
if you have been driving a while and stop (no airflow) it heats back up, guage goes up to 50%, where it should be in the first place and the revs drop back down to 800. wait some more and the fan turns on.
to me everything is normal apart from when you have airflow the temp drops sharply and its a freakin biaach to drive when its cold
should i be worried. and also, what could be causing it?

Thats the same issue that Im having with mine. The high revs I have decided must be the engine thinking that the engine is still cold (which it will be) and so opening the automatic choke. On the motorway mine struggles to hit 1/4 temp, traffic is okay but still lower than I remember of my previous ones. Im replacing the thermostat in the weekend so pretty confident that will sort it.

Another way to tell is the thermostat is gone is if it take freckin ages to warm up in the morning.

sure does. Cheap as chips to throw a new one in, so may as well do it even if just to cross it off the posibilities.
