4age extractors with no oxy sensor?

Postby dxtawagon » Mon Sep 05, 2005 1:54 pm

my rwd 4age (injected), has extractors but no oxy sensor.

i have a standard rwd exhaust and secondarys with sensor in it.
would i be better off putting this back in or trying to get a oxy sensor fitted to the extractors?
i heard extractors arnt that much better than standard exhaust??

will it make me car run better??, its having slight idle probs and doesnt rev out that nice?

cheers

Yes you should get the o2 sensor put into your extractors. An exhaust place will do it for you no worries. What I did was I got the exhaust place to cut the sensor flange out of my standard exhaust and weld it into my aftermarket exhaust. Wouldnt bother putting the std manifold back on. I think on blue tops the sensor is actually located on one of the primaries, but if I was you, id try get it put into the collector part of them (so further down the exhaust a bit - that way your getting a reading for all 4 cylinders and not just one).

Yea the std 4age exhaust manifold is suppose to be pretty good, but i cant see it being better than extractors although some ppl will argue that.

Without an o2 sensor, yeah it probably is causing it to run a bit rich and therefore rough during idle and could be causing it too run rich during acceleration which is losing you power.

Theres a small chance that the extractors were built for a NZ new 4age toyota?
I don't think they had an oxygen sensor fitted due to the leaded petrol that was available when they were sold new?
Anyone want to shoot my idea down?

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Correct Ken.

As far as my understanding goes anyway.

Yeah nz new 4ages didnt come with o2 sensor. Probably didnt have a cat converter either, just like how my bros nz new 92 tx3 doesnt.

I think because there are so many variations of the 4age the makers of the extractors dont bother putting a sensor flange on them because it will more than likely be in the wrong place. For example when I put extractors on mine, there was a flange for the sensor in the collector even though my sensor is located after the x-member, not in the extractors themselves.
