MR2 Gearbox

I have the age old problem of a large lack of sincromesh in second gear in my 1990 non turbo mr2. now i know you can pick up the 3sge gearboxes resonably cheap but whats to say it wont be stuffed to. so my question is how much would it cost just to get a new second gear in my gearbox at least that way i know the whole thing is good.

I rung up for my old Celica once cos the syncros were going on the 2nd gear and they said its cheaper and easier just to put a whole new gearbox (or secondhand) in.
