well heres an update on me trying to wind my adjustables down... :?

i got all excited and hypo last nite, threw the car on axle stands, ripped the weels off, grabbed my ruler :!: was just taking a look around as i havent actually had a good like under it , de greased it all, (got some in my eye 8O ) and took a few photos, measured up how much i can wind it down etc 8)
i did notice that all the lock nuts were pretty dented up, from the previous owner being a dork and oviously using the old hammer and chisel method. :x Front passengars side looked pretty screwed, like the little grooves were kinda rounded somehow! 8O

took a look at the drivers side and what do u know....

HALF THE LOCK NUT IS MISSING! 8O :!:

thats right. the idiot mustve of cracked it too hard and it snapped in two :!: :!: :!:
so theres only half a lock nut holding it all together, probably only held in by dirt and grease... and now ive de greased it all im pretty scketched about driving it!!! :x

i wil have to post some pictures up tonite for you all to see how F&*(% they are!!!

i think i mite just go to the suspension shop (not the same one that told me to use a chisel) and get them to replace it and lower it for me

im pretty dam gutted about it aye.

8O RANGI's!!! 8O

Bl#@dy Hell! Did you buy your car privately or through a car yard?

Yeah, go to the suspension shop and get them to have a look at it and see if they can fix it for you. It should be alright to drive to the suspension shop and short trips, but I wouldn't take it on any long trips or on rough roads. Good luck, keep me posted. :D

i bought it privatly in March this year, and the dude i got it off said nothing about it, but then again, why would he :!:
i have never taken the front weels off, except to put different mags on it.. and it got a warrant last time. so id say its been like that for a while, just no ones looked at it... the funny thing is, the part thats missing is around to the back of the strut.... so its hard to see it from the front if you were just having a quick look. ill get pictures. easier to see then.

its only like a few mm different heightwise to the other side, so i dont think its been slipping at all... ill just have to drive it so that all the dirt and stuff that i took off it gets back on it to hold it in place, hahaha... dam it.

8O To be quite honest, from looking at those's pic's, I think the locking nut was broken before you brought the vehicle. The damage to the notch's on the locking nut are quite significant as to the guy adjusting them with the 'rangi' approach of hammer and screwdriver. Also, it looks a bit suspect to me that the broken part was away from view. Hmmm... far too dodgy for my liking. :?
But the good thing is.... these coilovers should be easily rebuildable. A good suspension shop should be able to take them out, clean up the threads on the collar and replace the locking nuts. :D I would get the remaining shocks checked over too, for any damage/cracks etc to them, and if damaged get them replaced at the same time. :D

hey dude thanks for the advice :)

anyone know of or would like to tell me what good suspension shops there are in hamilton. P & H suspension were the ones that told me to use a chisel and hammer, so im not keen on going back to them. 8O

does anyone know of any other places there are that would be good???

any help would be good, as i cant drive my car too much at the moment, and while my other car is getting panel beated im pretty much screwed for having something to drive.

Have you got an 'Autolign' down there? They are generally good to deal with in Auckland so if they have a shop down there, it mite be worth a go. They have access to quite a bit of aftermarket coilover parts from their 'Racelign' store, and should be able to get the parts you require or make them to suit. Their prices are fairly reasonable too. :D
