boost limits st205, water injector or Front mount

Postby TRDmod » Wed Oct 05, 2005 11:55 pm

i have recently put a 450 b hp rated new turbo on my 205.

i will get a new computer for it, a totally new full ecu.

i was looking at a frontmount but it aint cheap so i was thinking, i would put a water injector and put a mixture of water and methanol (cold temperature) to prevent detonation.

firws tof all, potential for power, which one is better, and what difference in potential once i get my computer.

secondly, with the standard intercooler....what maximum boost should i do with fqactory computer and factory internals.....with no cat converter, and 2.5 inch al the way through.....what maximum safe level boost should i do....(i also have a 15 row oil cooler now)

Simply putting a 450bhp turbo onto an engine doesn't mean you'll get anywhere near 450bhp. Especially from an ST205. Only way you'll get anywhere near that is by uprating the internals, some serious head work and a lot of $.
As for i/c vs WI. Unless you are having potential detonation issues, then a front mount is the way to go (unless you're being realistic about power gains when the WAI is good for nearly 350bhp). WI is not designed to reduce intake temps. It is primarily for reducing in cylinder temperatures - you may wish to read the tech info at http://www.aquamist.co.uk

Max safe boost with a standard ST205 is 17psi. Above that, the boost cut will operate. You'll also run the risk of damaging the pistons too.

Try doing a bit more research before posting - that way you won't get flamed for making silly claims

'Lesser' spec gen2 3sgtes have been known to make 400+hp @ wheels with standard internals and unmodified heads (with aftermarket cams of course) with the correct supporting modifications, fuelling and tuning. Too much reading from the poms will have you putting in forged pistons with an upgraded ct26

gt420, actually i wasnt making claims i asked questions.

i said i put a 450 bhp rated turbo but i did not say it would get that.
:)

i am well aware that more work would be needed, im just saying.

i am getting a full computer. so i can tune it. but i was thinking wether to get front mount or keep my wai, and get a water injector.
