Did AE85/6 come with engine underbody tray ?

I'm looking at making one up to keep the air pushing through the radiator but obviously don't want to recreate the wheel if there is a factory one.

Does it go from the bumper lip to underneath the radiator, and help force air through the radiator ?

Its a bigge for me, as i want to intentionally tunnel as much air as possible via the FMIC and Radiator. Else it just pushes down out the bottom hole (between bumper and radiator) and you loose allot of cooling effect. If there is a tidy OEM solution, it'll save me fabricating something.

I might see the local toymotor dealer on monday and look at their parts diagrams.

thx

I've never seen an 85/86 with one. If they do exist, it wouldn't surprise me if they all go missing pretty quick.

I just mocked one up from that plastic board they use for real estate signs...

You should consider a full complete ducting system from the from bar. The undertray alone isn't all that effective, still too much unguided area for the air to escape through...

I haven't made all my ducting yet... waiting for copy of my bumper to come back before I start. :D

thx

I had planned to make up an Alu one, but once I started to template it with cardboard it started looking a bit hard (not impossible). My other alternative was to use rally car underbody protection (thick and slightly flexible plastic, and I think?? heat resistant). This way I could ensure it sealed well, didn't vibrate, and easily made. Not sure on where to buy it though.

I've seen it done from ABS plastic before. Not sure where you would get it from though.
But it looked like a good choice. Easy as pie to cut with a hack saw, and can be bent into shape by heating it with a heat gun...

How comprehesive are you making it?
The one I've mocked up is just basically flat. The front edge sits inside the little lip of the bumper and then goes back and under the undertray that is behind the radiator. Wasn't too hard to mock up.
I'm gonna try and source some ABS for the final one. And it'll probably be bolted to the lower lip of the bumper and then head along the same lines as my mock up...

yip something like you said. The soul aim is to push more air through the radiator and FMIC and make them work. I have a seperate thick Alu sump guard to protect that.

Hey.

What's your email? I'll send you a copy of the articles I saw where they made an undertray from ABS. It might give you some ideas as to how you can do yours.

Hi Beeker

I've got those undertrays (2 pieces) on my 86. I'll take a picture and post it on here when I've got it on the hoist this weekend.

Or you can get a beatrush undertray!
