Celica (ST182) Gearbox

Postby AJz » Sun Nov 06, 2005 7:10 pm

My celica has done this for a while now, only seems to do it when its still cold and has not long been started.

When changing gears from first to second it will occasionally click, its hard to desribe, its not a crunch and doesnt feel like worn syncros (im on my second gearbox) It makes the sound when pulling it out of first, goes into second fine, its just the point between pulling out of first gear and before passing neutral

Could it be something to do with the shifter cables/forks (whatever they are called) ??? Mabey tiny bit of play somewhere.

Any help or advice would be great.

bump, anybody else, im pretty sure syncros dont make this sort of noise.

the noise is hard to describe, its just one loud click you hear when pulling the gearstick out of first into the neutral postition when changing gears, its not a grinding or crunching or anything. hmmmm, this is hard to explain, lol

hah i have the same problem, fxgt tho, usually when im a lazy bugger and dont push the clutch in quick enough. it sort of spits it out when you pull the gear stick. makes the car shudder lol

does it do it when you shift slowly?

yea it doesnt matter how fast or slow you do it, just always clicks, will only do it a couple of times when its cold, and then thats it, so yea, its a mystery to me, lol

more so around the shifter than the box, but of course if you crunch a gear it still gonna sorta sound like its coming from the shifter as you will feel it, but yea, more below the shifter actually. im trying to remember if it did it with the last box, im pretty sure it did.
