Engine hp at the wheels( continued)

Some of you might remember my post a couple of weeks ago asking for a conversion from engine hp to wheel hp. The general consencous was to dyno it on a rolling dyno. Instead of guessing using "Thermal Dynamics".

When I brought the car ( 96Carib with 4age Black top) I was shown a dyno readout of 186hp at the engine.

Have just had it tested and it makes 102kw at the wheels.

Im assuming this is normal and everything is once again good in the world

Unless this engine has been on an engine dyno it has been measured at the wheels. Then a "correction factor" entered in by the dyno operator to allow for drivetrain losses. At 186hp at the flywheel it sounds if the dyno operator has been a extreeeheeeeeheeemely generous with that correction factor.

I'd be happy with the fact your 20v actually cracked the 100kw mark on the dyno.

Congratulation you know know the important figure of what you car makes at the wheels. You can now forget the imaginary engine horsepower figure as it's pure fantasy, and like all good fairy tales you can now live happily ever after

what sort of mods does your blacktop have?

It has:
Jasma extractors
Fukuoka 2" exhaust
Cold air intake, as detailed: http://4age.net/tech/coldair.htm
Splitfire 8mm sparkplug leads and plugs
Also has a splitfire earth lead kit, which earths the hell out of the engine and "apparently" gives a 1 or 2 hp gain.

All this was on the car when I brought it from the importer. Except for the air intake. It has a factory TRD steering wheel complete with air bag, but I dont think that helps with the engine performance. Has TRD springs and shocks to.

What's the difference between a hub and a rolling road dyno
in terms of the reading that you get?
do they use a conversion figure so that you can compare them as I presume that you get a higher reading on a hub?

Sounds similar to boxxys corolla GT with blacktop, his made 101kw on a hub dyno in Welly, not sure which but he will know.

Also very similar to NILPSI's AE111, which made 102kw....seems blacktops like aftermarket extractors huh

not tryin to start a fite here but y do b16a's make more power on rolling road dynos then blak top 4age's....mine made 110.9 kw on rolling road dyno with headers, exhust, intake an a fuel regulator....its got a b16a gen1 engine which only has 160hp from factory...also it made 118.7 kw on hub dyno....

Factory specs say there are 5 hp between them, with the 4age being higher. Sounds like the factory specs are more realistic on the Honda as the toyota specs are well known to be over inflated.
