s1 rx7 struts in ke20

Postby RE20 » Tue Nov 15, 2005 11:55 am

Has anyone here put s1 rx7 struts in a ke20? I know that its been done, is it a straight forward conversion? Are there any advantages to this?
Im re-doing the struts on mine so would like to know if I should look at doing this or just keep my current struts?
The only benifits I can think of are better aftermarket shock/spring/ brake options? If I was keeping the originals I was going to use compressed aftermarket springs with shortened shocks, and just good pads up front.

Thanks :D

People only do it as a brake upgrade in 808's and 616's etc. Not worth it when theres heaps more options in the toyota parts bin i.e AE85 etc. Theres also as bigger range of aftermarket suspension options for older toyotas as there are older mazdas.

Keep your current ones, get a gas shock, and some descent springs and youll be set. For brakes get good pads, machine your disks, maybe slotted rotors if youre real keen, maybe rebuild the calipers (worth doing) and use some descent fluid i.e 5.1

Its tried and true, its exactly what I was running before my cressida setup. My old setup I think little_devil has it now was Monroe GT Shocks, Dobisport springs, Bendix ultimate pads with machined rotors. Hanlded real nice, brakes were acceptable, but I still wanted something bigger now im running a bigger motor, so I steppedup to cressida ones.

That setup never faded once on me even after many many laps at puke.

Thats good to know, the engine will be a 4age (unsure of what kind) but won't be used on track so the pads will be fine.

Have to agree with Jebus and his comments re the Cressida set up, excellent stopping power 8) This conversion was done in my KE25 before I brought her and well worth the $$'s IMO as there is no point in going fast if ya cant stop at the other end

the advantage would be that the strut body would be alot shorter allowing you to go much lower but you'll prob hit your inner guards anyway so not much point. althought brakes are prob a little larger its prob easyier to fit corona/cressida ones.

ive s1 sev struts in my ke25 and they have excellent stopping power, its abit of an envloved process due to different kingpin inclination angle resulting in postive camber, however, i reckon it was worth it. Ive explain on here and club k in detail so a search should pull it up.
