regreasing front bearings and reuse of the grease seal

Postby beeker » Sat Dec 17, 2005 9:43 am

When i repack my font bearings on the AE86, when i remove the grease seal, I assume this can be reused if removed carefully ?

Note: Its gets pretty damm hot in competition use.

Yes the seals can be re-used but you might want to replace your wheel bearings, seals and grease as well, unless you know they have been replaced at some stage. $100/pair for bearings and seals from RIPCO not including grease, but have found a far better price from LE Bearings.

yip, did that prior to oct targa. just need a grease refresh now. wasnt sure if it was acceptable to reuse the seals after poping them out though. Sounds like its ok then.

If the wheel bearing, seals and grease were replaced in october then shoulnt need re-greasing for along time, even in competition use the bearing shouldnt be getting too hot, it could possible be the wheel bearing has been overtightened, check your tightening procedure below:

No disrespect, but every Targa competitor i speak to says that a bearing regrease is an essential part of every targa prep. Plus, change just about every fluid in the car, etc etc. FYI
