mounting after market guages in factory slots

Postby gordon77 » Mon Dec 19, 2005 5:50 pm

hey ppl got an ae92 fxgt - its got guages for oil pressure, battery and water temp...
i would like to replace them with some after market guages but put them in the origional holes.

i got an oil pressure guage off my mate to see how they would fit. i filed/sanded out the origional holes a bit to make it fit..

this is what it looks like from the back with the guage in..

now here is the problem... because of the pins on the guage seen above the guage does not fit into the origional housing...

can you not cut/mod the housing also?
If its got a printed circuit board this can make it a little more work, but not to hard overall with a little bit of skill and patience.
I did something 'similarish' in the clubman a while back when I fitted some custom gauges and a revcounter into the old gauge spaces. Had to gutt most the housing and rewire most of it.
Cant believe im still a member here.
