Idleing

Postby femaleshopper » Sat Dec 17, 2005 8:13 pm

Hey peeps

My Corolla GTI revs very low (500 revs or less) if going through congested traffic, ie stop start traffic (or in the case of my driving test today!!). When this happens, it sometimes drops out and stalls, which isnt cool, then struggles to fire again. What I normally do is take it for a burst at around 40-55 km and its fine again, well for a period of time anyway!!!

Has become a nusiance (sp?) over the past few weeks, as I do want to go to town, but this happens.

What does it sound like, does the idle need to be turned up?? If so how do you do this??

Thanks in advance

what motor is it

if its a 4age then its could be that the idle screw needs cleaning or just adjusting (this is found on the throttal body where the rubber hose conects form your air cleaner

of it could be that the auto choke is $&#$% which i think it would more likely be, if so good luck finding one that works properly

one cheap fix is just turn the idle screw up but then some times it will idle high (maby 1800rpm)
EX 1984 Corolla FX GT (AE82) 1st gen 4age
EX 1996 Corolla BZ touring (AE101) 5th gen 4age -LSD
EX 1997 Carib Z touring (AE111) some 4afe muck
Ex 2000 Fielder S (ZZE122)- Its BIG RED

2002 Corolla Ts (ZZE122) Mr ~ Ts

I'd agree with the above for a fix. Other things to look at at some time whould be to make sure ignition parts are all in good order and not worn out(e.g. sparkplugs) and timing is all spot on.
But, yea, mainly the above, many people with 4ages tend to get this problem occasionally. When Mine did it years ago I took the opportunity to re-new all the plugs/cables/dist cap as well as resetting the timing and idle & cleaning everything else. It fixed it, but didnt really allow me to pinpoint what was the main cause.
Cant believe im still a member here.
