Diff Modification Hilux > KE30

Postby Jebus » Thu Nov 17, 2005 3:17 pm

Anyone know anyone who can sort me out a good deal on setting up a hilux diff setup for my 30. I have purchased the hilux setup already, and need it shortened, axles re drilled to the right studs and driveshaft joining.
I will probably need the mounts done too, was going to do them myself but its not really recommended without a jig to square it up afterwards.

Ive talked to Diff's R Us and Steelies. It seems im realistically looking at a bit over $1k all up. Can anyone help me out or provide a suggestion?

is your ke30 turboed? if it isn't, and its staying that way I wouldn't go with a hilux diff. many people think they are overkill for a standard 4age.

otherwise you're other options are ae85, ae86 or older mitsi lancer diffs. they don't require shortening, just change the mounts and you're done.

Everyone says a hilux will be overkill for an N/A (which my car may not be forever), but if im going to do it once Im going do it proeperly. The worst that will come from it is a little bit added extra weight, a small price im willing to put up with for never having to worry about blowing another diff and having access to a massive range of different diff heads and ratio's. I already have a hilux setup of which I will be using.

suggestion?

Postby ezy10s » Fri Nov 18, 2005 7:57 pm

sounds like you already got your answer with steelies and diffs r us.
i have only dealt with diffs r us for my hilux conversions and they have always worked out fine for me- that said ive never had any experience with steelies so up to you really.
theres not much to suggest- either get them to do a swap for you or dont- if youve never done something as complex as this before i suggest leaving it to the experts as it will save you countless hours of unrest otherwise.
Its not just the shortening and restudding or the diff thts involved, getting the axles resplined is a specialist job and then there is the issue of welding on the spring mounts and 4 link mounts- if they arent in phase with each other then its all gona be on the piss-- diff pinion angle wrong, diff off to one side, car crabbing along the road etc.

best to spend a grand and be sure its right(and at the worst if its not then at least you can go back to who ever and bitch and moan at them to fix it!)

Yeh, im gunna do it, and will leave it to experts. Think im gunna go with Diffs R' Us for the diff work and Drive In to do the driveshaft (1/4 the price of Diffs R Us). Also its leaf spring rear so only 2 mounts, which is good.

Cheers.

:D Just got the hilux diff back, it has been fully modified and will bolt in, wallah. Am very very pleased with it. Has been shortened both sides to about 1385-1390, restudded to 4 X 114.4, KE30 mounts adapted onto it, with slightly more downward pinion angle, painted gloss black, modified the handbrake mounting. Cost me $750 all up, and took him 2 days from the time he started :D :D

Now just need two U bolts, driveshaft modified, a handbrake cable, then itll be all go.
