Smelly engine (Black-top 20valve 4age)

Postby Lanci » Wed Dec 21, 2005 12:03 am

Hi all,

After I drive my Carib hard(ish) it starts to smell very strongly of sulphur (Rotorua like). I'm not too sure if its the engine or the clutch however my gear shifts a clean and I don't ride it so I think its the clutch. Has anyone else found that this happens with their engines? (Note: only mods to engine appears to be a full trd exhaust)

Much appreciated

Lance

Sulpher smell from the exhaust is a cat converter side effect.

Yeah I get the same smell in my shed after putting the Commodore away when its hot but not the Lancer as it hasn't got a cat any more.

It's not actually a problem.
It's the cat converter working properly when the car is running the correct mixture.

If it semlls like that it's actually a sign that everything is in good condition.
