purpose of steel plate between 4age - T50 ?

Postby AE85.6 » Tue Dec 27, 2005 9:18 pm

while doing my gearbox and clutch mission i noticed that the steel plate that goes between my enigne and gearbox is not the same flange pattern so two bolts under the starter motor dont line up, can i just reslot or drill the holes where needed or how vital are these plates to have ?

cheers

the plate stops cerap from entering the bellhousing and clutch mechanism, it also ensures the block stays are lined up with the bellhousing. sounds like you have the wrong sandwich plate for the bellhousing/starter combination. redrill the holes for starter.

The metal sandwich plate...
- locates the starter using the big round hole and the holes that the dowels fit through, the 2 bolt holes aren't critical.
- keeps crap from getting into the clutch
I would be curious to know why it isn't the right one in the first place?

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
