it can only open once, as there are only one set of butterflies.

I think later ones, or possibly a different Toyota engine altogether had dual ACIS, where it had two steps like you're suggesting.

Just a thought, could you be noticing the butterflies closing? So open at 4k and close at 6k? Cos over those revs you wont be making much power.

dont they run a diferent system again

TVIS = Dual Runners, Same length and volume, secondary opens @ x rpm
Single ACIS = Dual runners, Different lengths and volume, Long runner used until @ rpm, then short opens (effectivly using both)
Dual ACIS = Tri runners, Diff lengths and volumes, longest used, then mid then high end, dependant on rpm.
Resoniator Intake = (isnt this what they have?) just a set of butterflys to a container on top of the manifold?....

*shurg* i might be completely wrong as usual, but yaknow... Cynos have "ACIS" printed on them, and have dual runners (different lengths), and what ive seen of those 3sge's they arnt the same system

yea they are diff.

ACIS in celicas and mr2's, (on the earlier gen1 mr2s and gen2 mr2s) is nothing like TVIS.

looksee here http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~dnstamp/galleries/ACIS/

its another chamber halfway through the intake manifold with 4 butterflies, this is vacuum controlled only. effective making the intake manifold bigger when you mash your foot. I have found a very very tiny noticable change in pitch but nothing like TVIS. you have to listen very hard.

i do know the cynos ones ur talking about and they are completely different.
I had vtax :(

the single ACIS system on gen 2 3sge's just opens a second plenum to change the helmholtz tuning of the intake at higher revs (or something).

the single ACIS system on 5e-fhe's has a set of long runners and a set of short runners, and appears to switch between them.

I have no idea about the dual ACIS, but I've heard it has two plenums or something
