Dash rebuild/modifcations

Postby DeeCee » Tue Jan 10, 2006 9:23 pm

Hey there,

Was curious on the legisalation regarding dash rebuilds modifications. I'm planning to rebuild the dash in my car out of f/g and was wondering about frontal impact / safety requirements (this will be in a normal car, not a race car). Is there a requirement about composites material ie plastics used instead of fibreglass? dash padding material etc?

Also, with such modications such as fibreglass, how do people get warrents? i remember being told by a wof man that there were to be no extruding guages/accesssories in the middle of the dash or in front of the passenger, yet i see many cars in magazines with such additions.
Can anyone expressly clarify what goes and what doesn't? i can't seem to find the relevent info on the boards or on the ltsa website.

Cheers

Dave

It should be in 7.7 of the VIR Manual

And as usual, alot of it comes down to the testing officers discretion......Best bet is to find a friendly certifier and have a chat
