20v Engine Check

Postby XS1V » Wed Jan 04, 2006 5:03 pm

In my ae82 with a 20v silvertop i was coming back from hahei when we stoped at thames. When i turned the car back on the check light was on and it was in limp mode. I disconnected the battery and reset the computer and it ran fine till the next time we stopped and it happened again when starting.

It has also started over heating now and after trying a diagnostic code (bridging E1 and Te1) it flashed non stop.

What to do? Anyone had a similar problem?

if you suspect its the ecu iv had and seen problems with two capacitors leaking in them, just replace them, but check everything else first

IIRC, the non stop flashing of the engine check light mean that there is no code

that might be worth a read.
is the motor actually over heating? or is the gauge just telling you that it is?

Yea i dont think it was logged, have pretty much put it down to a low water level due to the over heat which causes the engine light to turn on.

Yup its definately over heating, using water and steaming after long drives on hot day etc :S

Thinking maybe thermostat? Possibly somthing to do with it running rich with the bung injectors but i dont know
