Method a few people use to avoid touching the manifold - port out the internal wastegate to as big as possible, remove the flapper totally, then have the external gate mounted right there, of the flange you'd bolt to your turbo. Means you make a new downpipe, but meh, thats a bonus anyway.
To the rest of you - no need to have a go at the guy. I'm one of those people who like the sound of an external, just like a stupidly loud BOV. So what if it doesn't have any real gains - neither does the widebody kit / big wheels / painted rocker cover you have.
